Med to fatwaer hængende over hovedet rejser hun verden rundt i tolerancens navn.

Imam, feminist and advocate of a new sexual revolution. Meet the passionate Seyran Ateş, who puts her life at risk in the holy name of tolerance.

In the 1960s, it was the hippies who demanded a sexual revolution. Today, the same demand comes from the German-Turkish imam, feminist, and human rights advocate Seyran Ateş. Despite assassination attempts, death threats and fierce criticism from all sides, she has dedicated her life to campaign for reforms of gender and sex in modern Islam - something that Ateş believes goes hand in hand with the dogmas of religion and can only be achieved from within. With two fatwas hanging over her head, she travels around the world in the name of tolerance. The journey takes her to unexpected places, such as a brothel in Germany and China, where she meets young LGBTQ+ Uighurs and traditional female imams. But it is also a journey through Ateş’s life, from her upbringing in the slums of Istanbul to becoming an international icon in the fight against hatred and extremism. Nefise Özkal Lorentzen’s film is more than a portrait of a rebel and a nonconformist. It is a contribution to a challenging but highly topical debate.
